TEA taking public comment on statewide CTE Programs of Study affecting journalism programs until July 19
As more journalism programs across Texas transition to using CTE-based courses, it is important that publication advisers have input in the process of shaping the recommended statewide Programs of Study sanctioned by the Texas Education Agency.
In early June, TEA posted a draft of the new statewide Programs of Study, which set the rules on the prerequisites, sequence and high school/industry certifications associated with various CTE classes.
The proposed programs of study are scheduled to go into effect for the 2020-2021 school year and will allow Texas to meet the federal program approval requirements within the Strengthening CTE for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V).
