What’s the biggest struggle you’ve had to overcome as a teacher?
Classroom management is a big hurdle when you are starting out. Figuring out systems that work for you and your specific population of students can be a challenge, but once you get a handle on that, you can really open your tool box and equip your students with what they need to succeed. Beyond succeeding, I want my students to enjoy their time in my classroom and feel like it benefits them beyond just passing a class and checking a “to-do” off of a list.
Who are your biggest influencers as a teacher?
My biggest influencers as a teacher are the teachers who taught me, such as my English 4 teacher Mr. Beauchamp and my English 2 teacher Ms. Maia, and all of the other teachers who believed in me. Many of my current colleagues also keep inspiring me, such as Mr. Beauchamp, who I am lucky enough to have been taught by and now teach with. It is easy to be inspired and influenced when you are surrounded by such talented and dedicated individuals.
