Why is journalism important?
Journalism is important because it preserves the history of the school. It gives students an opportunity to tell their story. Each year, new stories come to life through the voice of the students. It is important to guide them to make sound decisions and to practice digital citizenship.
What’s the biggest struggle you’ve had to overcome as a teacher?
Being from a small school, we have to wear multiple hats. I teach journalism/yearbook, 4 levels of photography and Multimedia Design. Then at the end of the day, I put on my coach hat to coach soccer. I have to stay very organized and hit the ground running starting the first day of school.
Who are your biggest influencers as a teacher?
My family and of course my students. Each year, new faces come into my classroom with fresh ideas and experiences.
